31 December 2007

The market continued its volatility in December and trend lower. Though it staged a mini recovery in the last few days, it did not quite recover its lost from the earlier days of the month. STI ends the year at 3482.30.

My portfolio value reduced -$7,186.62 in this month. I bought some beaten down stock and subscribed to Jurong Tech right issue, at a total of S$4,210. Therefore the total reduction of the portfolio value was S$13,396.62.

I received a total of S$3,375.27 dividend payout. I will update the total dividend received this year in a few days when I receive the statement from CDP.

30 November 2007

The stock market experienced a very volatile month in November. Market corrected, due to sub-prime woe inspired fear. Market confidence was shaken. The penny stock took the most beating. The re-bound at month end only saw some blue chips recovering back some lost ground. Penny stocks still lack behind (usual).

The portfolio dropped in tendem with the market. Compared with 31 Oct, portfolio value of S$552,986 represents a decrease of $27,500, despite an injection of S$24,150 to buy new stock. subscribe right share and top-up beaten down stocks. So effectively, porfolio value decreased by $51,650 in this month. Let's hope that the market sentiment improve in the month of December and ride on the Year-end rally.

This month, I received a totall of S$5,260.50 of dividend, mainly from Hiap Moh.

31 October 2007

As compared with 28 September 2007, the portfolio grew to 571K, a wroppling increase of 62.3K. In the month of October, I bought in 39.3K worth of shares (including new counters to continue diversification, and existing ones where price drop to good value). Therefore the actual growth of the portfolio is only 23K. It is still a good 4.5% growth.

When Cosco soared to S$7.8, I sold 4000 shares, only to buy back 2 days later at 7.25. Locked in net profit of $1,990. Just for the fun of it.

I received no dividend payout this month.

28 September 2007

Update of stock portfolio at month end. STI had a good run over the last few days. Today it took little halt as we approach the quarter ending. S-shares ran wild this afternoon, apparently due to the following reason as reported by Merrill Lynch:

SGX listed China Stocks are running riot today - many of them rising by more than 10% - and here's the main reason why from Merrill Lynch:Yesterday, a 3rd QDII fund was approved. What was significant was that Jiashi Fund Management Co is the first QDII to be allowed to invest in Chinese companies (defined as having at least 50% of its revenues from China) listed on the SGX and in the US.

We saw what happened to the HK market when it was announced that QDII funds could invest in HK. The index is already up 32% from the sub-prime crisis lows even before a single QDII dollar has been invested. Real money of US$48bn is expected to flow in for 2008.

If 10% flows into the S shares, this translates to 12% of the US$40bn S-share market. The S shares have been underperforming even the STI, much less its H share peers.

Whilst the STI has hit a new high yesterday, the broad market has lagged. We feel that the time is now ripe for the S shares to perform.

Our picks are (taking into account size, liquidity, market leadership, valuation):Yangzijiang (YSJ), Cosco (COS ), Synear Foods (SYNF ), Midas (MIDAS), China Hongxing (CHHS), Yanlord (YLLG), China XLX (CXLX), China Energy (CEGY), China Sky (CSCF), Celestial (CENU), Sino Tech fibre (SINOT), Hongguo (HGUO), Beauty China (BCH).

Yangzijiang (YZJ SP) - 19x 08 PER
Guangzhou Shipyard Intl - 22.2x 08 PER,
Synear Foods - 17x 08 PER
China Mengniu (2319 HK) - 34x 08 PER
Tingyi Holdings (322 HK) - 35x 08 PER

Hongguo (HGUO) - 12.3x 08 PER

Compulsory Acquisition of PanU Marine

My PanU Marine shares were deleted from the CDP account on 14.9.2007 (didn't notice it as I don't check CDP account regularly). The cheque for the shares comes today.

This is the first time one of my shares got "compulsorily" acquired. Sad to lose this counter as it gave me good dividend over the past years. Happy because these shares were spin off from Pan United Limited and my cost was 0 (zero).

Share portfolio cross 500K mark

Last night, US Fed cut interest rate 50 pct. pt. Today, Nikkei soared over 579 points and Hang Seng jumped 978 points at the closing (over 1000points at certain point of time)! STI rose 116.61 at 5:00pm.

Portfolio rose with the market and cross 500K point for the first time.
